History of the Walter-Bierly House.
In 1874, Denver had already begun to be known as a booming cattle town in the Wild West! John Walters left Surrey, England, with a small inheritance and bought a small cattle ranch North-East of Denver City. Gold had been discovered in Central City and the miners were hungry for beef. With his new wealth, Joh Walters began building his new home. It was built in an eclectic Italianate/Queen Anne style.
The Walters family moved into the mansion in 1888 and were delighted with the newest amenities of the time - coal fired central heating, gas and electric light fixtures and indoor plumbing. They lived in the house until 1945. The Bierlys were the grandchildren of the Walters - hence the name Walter-Bierly House. The house was sold to Julia Loper, who had worked for the Walters family. Loper willed the house to her undertaker, Jesse Douglass, who lived in the house from 1961 to 1972. Our client has lived here since 1977.
See photos below of some of the original details of the house!
