Description:

A rare and historically significant vintage 'Old Hickory' Archery Set distributed by Western Archery Sales Inc. of Denver, Colorado, making this an exceptional piece of Colorado sporting goods history. The set consists of two components: a laminated wood longbow still in its original corrugated cardboard box bearing the 'Old Hickory Archery Set — Bows and Arrows' label with period-appropriate green and brown graphics, and a separate arrow box branded with the Western Archery Sales shield logo prominently reading 'Distributed by Western Archery Sales Inc. of Denver, Colo.' The bow box measures approximately 5 feet in length and the bow itself appears to be a traditional flatbow or longbow style constructed of laminated light-colored wood, likely hickory and/or maple, consistent with mid-20th century production circa 1950s-1960s. The arrow box features two die-cut display windows revealing a set of wooden target arrows with mixed fletching colors including orange, blue, and white feather vanes, with what appear to be brass or steel field tips. Western Archery Sales was a prominent Denver-based distributor that supplied archery equipment throughout the Rocky Mountain region during the postwar archery boom of the 1950s-60s, making this set a genuine piece of Colorado sporting heritage. Condition is Good overall: the bow box shows significant wear including tears, moisture staining, and partial label loss to the end panel, while the bow itself appears structurally intact with no visible cracks or delamination; the arrow display box shows soiling, yellowing, and edge wear but retains its original graphics clearly; the arrows appear complete with tips intact though fletching condition varies and some age-related wear is expected. This set is sold as a display/collector piece and should be evaluated by a qualified archery technician before any attempt at use.
