Description:

This is an authentic 1962 Mattel Barbie 'Ponytail' black vinyl wardrobe carrying case, clearly marked with the copyright '©TM Lic., & © by Mattel Inc. 1962' and the 'Ponytail' designation printed in the lower left corner of the front panel. The case features the iconic black vinyl exterior decorated with a glamorous illustrated graphic of Barbie in a gold gown at a microphone, accompanied by two additional fashion figures in pink and yellow evening wear, all set against a starfield background — a design highly sought by vintage Barbie collectors. Construction includes a sturdy chrome-tone metal clasp and hinge hardware at the top, a white plastic carry handle, and a cream/white interior with metal framing, typical of the early 1960s Mattel wardrobe cases. The case measures approximately 12 inches tall by 9 inches wide by 4 inches deep and opens to reveal a large storage compartment. Included with the case are two vintage Barbie-era dolls: one appears to be a blonde straight-leg Barbie (likely early 1960s Midge or Barbie) with blue eyes and rooted hair, and one brunette doll that appears to be a Skipper or Francie figure, both showing play wear consistent with their age. Also included is a substantial lot of vintage Barbie clothing and accessories spanning the 1960s–1970s, including denim pieces, floral prints, red separates, knit items, and what appears to be a jump rope or yarn accessory. Condition is Good overall: the exterior vinyl shows surface scratches, scuffing, and light crazing consistent with 60+ years of use, with some graphic wear particularly in the upper left area; the clasp and handle are intact and functional; the dolls show typical play wear including hair tangle, light surface marks, and body discoloration; clothing is unverified for completeness but represents a generous mixed lot ideal for collectors or resellers.
