Description:

This lot includes 15 natural sea shells total: two large abalone shells (Haliotis species) and approximately 13 scallop shells (likely Pecten maximus or similar species) in assorted sizes ranging from approximately 2 to 5 inches across. The two abalone shells are the standout pieces, each measuring approximately 7-8 inches in length and 5-6 inches wide, displaying the species' signature iridescent mother-of-pearl interior with swirling greens, blues, purples, and bronzes — highly prized by collectors, crafters, jewelry makers, and those who use them for smudging ceremonies in Native American and New Age spiritual practices. The scallop shells display classic fan-shaped ribbed forms with natural cream, white, and russet-brown coloration, varying in size from roughly 2 to 4.5 inches, making them ideal for coastal decor, resin art, jewelry casting, soap dishes, or culinary presentation. Abalone shells have long been used by Indigenous peoples of the Pacific Coast and Southwest as ceremonial vessels, trade items, and adornment, and remain popular in Colorado's robust metaphysical and artisan craft communities. Condition is overall Good to Very Good; the abalone shells show natural exterior roughness and some residual organic material consistent with natural specimens, with interiors retaining strong iridescence and no major cracks or breaks noted. The scallop shells show minor natural edge chips and surface wear typical of collected specimens, with a few showing slight soil or organic staining. All shells are structurally intact and suitable for display, crafting, smudging, or resale.
