Pair of Vintage Lux Cuckoo Clocks (Mid-20th Century, U.S.A.)
These charming wall clocks are American-made by Lux Clock Mfg. Co. Inc., a company known for its whimsical and decorative timepieces during the mid-20th century. Although their design echoes the traditional Black Forest German cuckoo clocks, these are distinctly American interpretations.
-
Material: Likely molded composition or painted wood/plastic, with faux wood finishes to mimic carved timber.
-
Left Clock: Features a leaping deer above the Arabic numeral dial with a floral center and is surrounded by stylized vines. It has cast chain weights and a decorative round pendulum.
-
Right Clock: A more elaborate version with a bird perched on the roof, a red cuckoo that emerges from a window, ornate leaf and scrollwork, and a Roman numeral dial with a radiating sunburst pattern.
-
Mechanism: Both use mechanical wind-up movements with pull chains, pendulums, and internal bellows or chimes for the cuckoo sound. The “PATENTS PENDING” imprint on the back casing suggests early models.
