Lot #14 - Authentic Antique Chinese "Butterfly" Coffer- 68"W x 24"D x 22"T. This authentic Chinese Antique Coffer is made in elegant Ming style. The coffer is crafted into a "butterfly" shape with unique carved lines around the side and front apron of the table. Handcrafted and structured with mortise and tenon joints, which is the traditional craftsmanship for furniture making in ancient China. Coffers originally served as an ancestral altar. The undivided compartment beneath the three drawers provided storage space for hanging scrolls and other long objects related to ancestral worship.
Handcrafted from what we believe is Elm wood, this coffer is very solid and sturdy and shows beautiful original wear and patina.
