Lot #4 - Antique Mid-Late 1800s Georg Kreuzberg Stoneware Bottle & J Bourne & Son Stoneware Bottle
A pair of antique stoneware bottles from the 1800s. Perfect for collectors of antique pottery or rustic decor.
- Georg Kreuzberg, a German merchant, discovered a mineral well in Ahrweiler in 1852. He bottled the water in earthenware bottles and labelled them 'Apollinaris Brunnen/Georg Kreuzberg Ahrweiler Rheinpreussen.'
- A vitreous stone bottle made by J. Bourne & Son at Denby Pottery near Derby, England, and distributed by P. & J. Arnold in London. These bottles were typically used to store liquids like ink, preserves, beer and medicine in the 1800s. The bottle is made of stoneware with a salt glaze, which makes it impervious.
