This striking vintage Brutalist wall sculpture depicts a detailed cityscape of building facades, likely dating from the Mid Century Modern era, c. 1960s-1970s. Crafted from a combination of copper and brass, the piece features a rich, variegated patina achieved through heat treatment, creating a vibrant spectrum of blues, greens, browns, and golds. The construction is intricate, with individual building elements, windows, doors, and architectural details meticulously cut and layered, giving the piece a three-dimensional quality. Notable details include signage for "Sunset Saloon," "James Book," "Waterman's Bindery," "William Book Store," and "Waterman Book Binder," suggesting a historical or imagined street scene. The overall dimensions are approximately 30 inches wide by 20 inches high, making it a substantial decorative statement. The Brutalist style is evident in the raw, textured metalwork and the emphasis on the material's inherent properties, while the subject matter offers a nostalgic charm. This piece would have been a popular decorative item in homes seeking a unique, artistic touch during the mid-20th century. Expert observation reveals no obvious maker's marks, which is common for many Brutalist metal art pieces of this period, often produced by smaller studios or individual artists. The construction techniques, including soldering and layering, are consistent with the era. The sculpture is in good vintage condition, showing honest wear consistent with its age. There are minor bends to some of the thinner metal elements and expected surface wear and oxidation to the copper and brass, which contributes to its aged aesthetic. All major components are present and structurally sound, though a small wire support is visible on the lower right, likely for stability or mounting. The rich patina is stable and adds to the character of the piece, with no significant damage or repairs noted.
