Description:

This is a vintage Samsonite Streamlite suitcase, a classic piece of Mid Century Modern travel gear from the 1940s-1950s. Manufactured by Shwayder Brothers, Inc. in Denver, Colorado, Samsonite Streamlite luggage was renowned for its durable construction and stylish design, often featuring vulcanized fiber or plywood covered in a durable leather-like material. This particular piece showcases the iconic tan finish with contrasting stitching and brass-toned hardware, embodying the golden age of travel. The handle is clearly embossed with the 'Samsonite' brand, a testament to its authenticity and origin. Its robust construction and classic aesthetic make it a desirable item for collectors of vintage luggage or as a unique decorative accent. The suitcase measures approximately 21 inches long, 13 inches wide, and 6 inches deep, making it a versatile size for display or light storage. This piece represents a significant era in American manufacturing and design, originating from a company with deep roots in the Colorado region. The construction features riveted hardware and reinforced corners, typical of quality luggage from this period. This suitcase is in Good condition, showing honest wear consistent with its age and intended use. There are numerous surface scratches, scuffs, and areas of discoloration to the exterior, particularly on the edges and corners. The handle shows cracking and wear to the material, but remains structurally sound. The brass-toned latches exhibit tarnish and some minor pitting. The interior is not visible but is presumed to show signs of age and use. All hardware appears to be present and functional, though a key for the lock is not included.
