Description:

This is a vintage 40-piece tungsten steel combination tap and die set manufactured in Japan, model number 84-8575, covering National Coarse (NC), National Fine (NF), and pipe combination thread sizes. The set includes an impressive range of sizes: 4-40, 6-32, 8-32, 10-32, 10-24, 12-24, 1/4-20, 5/16-18, 3/8-16, 7/16-14, 1/2-13, 1/8 pipe tap, 1/4-28, 5/16-24, 3/8-24, 7/16-20, and 1/2-20, making it a comprehensive threading solution for both coarse and fine applications. Accessories include one long-handle adjustable tap wrench, one T-handle tap wrench, one die handle, one screwdriver, and one screw pitch gauge, all housed in a fitted blue metal tin case with a detailed diagram lid. A Henry L. Hanson Co. of Worcester, Massachusetts self-tapping screw chart reference card is included inside the case, suggesting this set was used by a knowledgeable tradesperson or machinist. The taps are properly heat-treated tungsten steel and the dies are marked 'Tungsten' indicating quality construction typical of Japanese-made precision tools from the 1960s-1970s era, when Japanese tool manufacturing was gaining a strong reputation for quality at competitive prices. Condition is Good to Very Good overall; the outer cardboard box shows significant wear with creasing, scuffing, and edge wear to the blue borders, while the metal tin case itself is in better shape with light surface scratches and minor scuffs. The interior blue plastic tray appears intact and the tools show light use with some minor surface oxidation on a few pieces but no significant rust or damage; completeness should be verified by the buyer as some pieces may be missing from original 40-piece count.
