Description:

This is a vintage Singer 500A 'Rocketeer' sewing machine head, one of Singer's most celebrated mid-century zigzag models produced by The Singer Manufacturing Company in Elizabeth, New Jersey during the late 1950s to early 1960s. The machine features the distinctive tan/beige and cream two-tone color scheme with rich brown and gold accent panels that are hallmarks of this sought-after model, along with the iconic stitch selector dial with lettered positions A through J plus Special settings, and a stitch length lever calibrated from Fine through 20 stitches per inch. The Rocketeer 500A represented Singer's top-of-the-line consumer zigzag machine of its era, built on an all-metal die-cast aluminum chassis with precision internal mechanisms that collectors and sewists prize for their durability and smooth operation. The original gold Singer Sewing Machines medallion badge is present on the pillar, and the patent label on the underside references The Singer Manufacturing Company, Elizabeth, New Jersey, confirming authenticity. The stitch pattern selector panel retains its gold lettering in very good condition, and the chrome presser foot assembly and needle bar appear intact and complete. Condition is rated Good overall: the body shows light surface scuffs and minor paint wear consistent with age and use, the patent label on the underside shows significant peeling and partial loss, and there is some yellowing to the cream-colored trim pieces; mechanically the machine turns freely by hand and all visible controls move as expected, though electrical function and motor are not included as this is a head-only unit without cabinet, pedal, or power cord.
