Description:

This elegant console table exemplifies the Hepplewhite Federal style, likely dating to the early-to-mid 20th century as a high-quality period revival piece, constructed of rich mahogany with spectacular flame-figured veneer panels on the apron that display dramatic book-matched grain patterns in deep reddish-brown tones. The table features a single full-width drawer fitted with two brass ring pulls on reeded circular backplates, a hallmark detail of the Hepplewhite and Federal design vocabulary popularized in America from the 1780s through the 1820s and widely reproduced by quality furniture makers through the 1940s. This exceptional example includes fold-out leaves that seamlessly extend the top, transforming it from an elegant console into a fully functional dining table for entertaining and everyday use. The top presents a clean rectangular form with canted corners and a molded edge profile with gilt-highlighted banding, while the apron is trimmed with a delicate applied gilt beaded molding along the lower edge — a refined decorative detail indicating above-average quality construction. Four elegantly tapered square legs with spade-style feet and quarter-round bracket returns at the apron corners complete the classic Federal silhouette; estimated dimensions are approximately 42 inches wide (extended with leaves), 18 inches deep, and 30 inches tall. The flame mahogany veneer on the drawer front is particularly fine, with a sunburst-style center match that suggests the work of a skilled craftsman or a reputable period furniture manufacturer such as Drexel, Kindel, or a similar mid-century quality maker. Condition is rated Good overall: the top surface shows light surface scratches and minor clouding to the lacquer finish consistent with age and use, the gilt banding on the top edge shows wear and loss at the corners and along the front edge, and there is some chipping and finish loss to the molding at the corners as visible in the close-up images. The drawer appears functional, leaves operate smoothly, and the legs are structurally sound with no visible breaks or repairs; the brass hardware retains its original aged patina. An ideal entryway, foyer, or dining table for a traditional, Federal, or Colonial Revival interior.
