Description:

This lot includes two vintage Asian-style bamboo parasols/umbrellas, presented here in both their closed/folded state and one opened to display its full canopy. The opened parasol features a teal/aqua silk or silk-like fabric canopy with hand-painted floral motifs including large white peonies and colorful botanical sprigs, supported by a radiating framework of fine bamboo ribs emanating from a dark lacquered center hub. The first closed parasol has a distinctive turned wooden handle with green, orange, and blue painted ring accents, a jute rope wrist loop, and tightly bundled bamboo ribs with multicolored red, green, and natural tones — approximately 24 inches in closed length. The second closed parasol features a longer bamboo shaft (approximately 36 inches total) with a natural honey-toned handle and black tip cap, with uniformly natural bamboo ribs in the closed position. These parasols are consistent with mid-20th century Chinese or Southeast Asian export craft production, commonly used for decorative display, theatrical performance, dance, or garden decor, and are highly collectible as Asian folk art and decorative accessories. Condition is overall Good to Fair: the teal parasol canopy shows a tear/separation along one panel seam and general age-related wear; the painted bamboo parasol shows paint loss and wear to the ribs; the natural bamboo parasol appears in better structural condition with minor age patina. All three pieces show honest wear consistent with age and use, including surface soiling and minor fraying.
