Description:

An extraordinary lifetime collection of 80+ vintage ski resort and racing enamel lapel pins, professionally displayed in a wood-framed velvet shadowbox measuring approximately 24x18 inches. The collection spans roughly the 1970s through early 1990s and represents a remarkable breadth of North American and European ski destinations, making it a true time capsule of the golden era of recreational skiing. Colorado resorts are heavily represented and include Vail, Breckenridge, Copper Mountain, Purgatory, Monarch, Keystone (North Peak and Arapahoe Basin), Buttermilk, Snowmass, Beaver Creek, Silver Creek, Sunlight, and Aspen Highlands, alongside the iconic 'Colorado Ski Country USA' and 'I Skied Beaver Creek First' commemorative pins. NASTAR racing pins are a standout feature of the collection, with Bronze, Silver, and Gold level achievement pins from numerous resorts including Sun Valley, Snowbird, Vail, Buttermilk, Snowmass, Keystone, Breckenridge, Purgatory, Taos Ski Valley, and more — representing documented personal racing achievements across decades. Additional highlights include rare 1981 and 1982 Denver Post Governor's Cup pins (held at Devil's Thumb Ranch), a Deer Valley Medalist Challenge pin, Geneva Basin 1960s pin, international pins from Courchevel, Meribel-Mottaret, Val Thorens, and Les 3 Vallees (France), a Squaw Valley 1960 Olympics California pin, Northstar at Tahoe, Heavenly Lake Tahoe, Sun Valley Idaho, Brighton Utah, and a St. Louis Ski Club 'Archrivals' Racing Team pin. The pins are constructed of die-cast metal with cloisonne or soft enamel fills in vibrant multicolor designs, each secured through the olive-green velvet backing of the shadowbox display. Condition is rated Good to Very Good overall for the pins themselves — the majority retain bright, unfaded enamel with minimal wear; a small number of pin positions are empty (approximately 15-20 vacant holes visible), indicating some pins have been removed over time. The velvet shadowbox backing shows significant age-related wear including multiple puncture holes, staining, and discoloration consistent with decades of use as a pin display board; the wood frame shows light scuffs and wear but remains structurally sound. This collection represents an irreplaceable piece of Colorado and American ski history, ideal for mountain lodge decor, serious ski memorabilia collectors, or historians of the American ski industry.
