Description:

This is a handsome set of four Regency-style mahogany dining side chairs dating to approximately the 1930s-1950s, featuring the hallmark design elements of the English Regency revival period that was enormously popular in American furniture production during this era. Each chair is constructed of dark mahogany with a distinctive triple-ring or double-oval interlocking splat back design set beneath a curved, reeded crest rail — a motif closely associated with the Regency and late Federal periods and widely reproduced by quality American furniture makers through the mid-20th century. The elegant saber legs sweep gracefully outward front and rear, providing both visual lightness and structural stability, and the overall silhouette is refined and classically proportioned at approximately 33 inches tall with an 18-inch seat height. Each drop-in seat cushion is upholstered in hand-worked needlepoint featuring floral bouquet designs on a cream/ivory ground — notably, the four seats display slightly different floral compositions including roses, pansies, and mixed garden flowers, suggesting the needlepoint may have been custom worked, possibly as a set over time. The needlepoint work itself is fine and detailed, indicative of skilled hand needlework consistent with mid-20th century American parlor craft traditions. Condition is rated Good to Very Good overall: the mahogany frames show honest age-appropriate wear including minor surface scuffs, light scratches, and some finish dulling consistent with 70-80 years of use, and at least one chair shows a small repair dot visible on the back splat; the needlepoint seats show light soiling and minor fading but remain structurally intact with no significant unraveling or tears noted. The chairs appear structurally sound with no visible broken joints, though professional tightening of joints may be advisable before active dining use. This set would appeal strongly to Colorado estate buyers, traditional home decorators, and collectors of English Regency revival or Duncan Phyfe-style American furniture.
