Description:

This exceptional collection of eight vintage Catholic religious items offers a diverse and compelling grouping for collectors, decorators, or devout households. The lot includes: a large ivory-toned celluloid or early plastic crucifix with ornate sunburst halo corpus and decorative lace-pattern cross arms featuring a small relic compartment at top (approximately 12 inches tall), likely Italian or French manufacture from the 1940s-1960s; a carved walnut wood cross with a distinctive routed center channel and rounded terminals, possibly a holy water font or candle holder base (approximately 14 inches tall), showing fine hand-craftsmanship; a large wood crucifix with gold-tone metal corpus and small devotional image at the top (approximately 16 inches tall); a mid-century wood and gold-tone filigree-panel crucifix with silver-tone corpus; a sleek modernist chrome or silver-tone metal corpus on a brushed aluminum cross with hanging ring; a small pendant-style silver-tone crucifix on chain; a slim silver-tone corpus on a thin metal cross with spike base for standing display; and a white bisque or alabaster bas-relief plaque of the Madonna and Child mounted on a black lacquered rectangular base (approximately 4x6 inches), depicting the Virgin Mary in a tender embrace with the Christ child in a style reminiscent of mid-20th century Italian devotional art. The corpus figures throughout the collection display varying levels of anatomical detail and artistic quality, ranging from highly detailed silver-tone cast metal to simpler gold-tone pressed figures. Provenance suggests a single Catholic household collection assembled over several decades, likely spanning the 1940s through 1980s, with pieces of probable Italian, French, and domestic American origin. Condition is overall Very Good for the collection; the celluloid/plastic large crucifix shows minor yellowing consistent with age and a small compartment door at top; the wood cross shows normal patina and handling wear; metal corpus figures show light tarnish and minor surface oxidation; the Madonna plaque is intact with no visible chips or cracks; all pieces are structurally sound and display-ready.
