Description:

This classic Duncan Phyfe-style mahogany dining room set dates to approximately the 1940s-1950s and represents the enduring popularity of this Regency-inspired American furniture tradition. The rectangular drop-leaf extension table features a rich dark mahogany veneer top with rounded corners, supported by the characteristic lyre-form double pedestal base with elegantly splayed saber legs — hallmarks of the Duncan Phyfe aesthetic that dominated American formal dining rooms from the 1930s through the 1950s. The set includes seven matching dining chairs: five side chairs with gracefully curved ladder-back splats and saber legs, plus two armchairs featuring the distinctive carved scrolled back with sweeping curved arms and cabriole-style front legs, all upholstered in a champagne/gold diamond-pattern damask fabric. An additional extension leaf is included, stored separately, allowing the table to seat 8 or more guests when fully extended; the table measures approximately 42 inches square when closed and likely extends to 60-66 inches with the leaf inserted. Construction details including the solid mahogany secondary wood, hand-shaped saber legs, and quality veneer work are consistent with mid-century American furniture manufacturers such as Kindel, Morganton, or similar period producers. Condition is rated Good to Very Good overall: the tabletop shows visible surface scratches and light scuff marks across the center, consistent with decades of use, and the finish has some dullness that would benefit from professional polishing; the chair upholstery appears intact with no visible tears but shows light soiling and age-related fading; chair frames are structurally sound with no observed loose joints or missing elements; the carved armchair backs show minor finish wear at contact points.
