Description:

This exceptional collection of antique salt cellars offers three distinct pieces representing the finest Victorian and Edwardian table service traditions. The centerpiece is an ornate silverplate double open salt stand featuring two pressed glass liner bowls with scalloped hobnail rims, united by an elaborate grapevine and leaf motif handle with intertwined branch design, resting on a decorative base with acanthus leaf embellishments and four claw feet — estimated approximately 6 inches tall and 6 inches wide. The glass liners are removable, pressed with a beaded rim pattern consistent with late 19th to early 20th century American or European manufacture, and show the characteristic cloudy patina of aged pressed glass. The third piece is a stunning footed porcelain open salt cellar, likely of Continental European origin (possibly Austrian or Bohemian, circa 1880-1910), featuring a melon-ribbed white body hand-painted with deep crimson roses and green foliage, a rich teal and gold scrollwork band at the rim with gilt scalloped edge, and three applied gold feet — a hallmark of high-quality Victorian porcelain table accessories. Also included is a gold-tone double salt stand with colorful enamel-decorated holders bearing geometric mosaic-style banding in red, blue, teal, and gold with a small figural finial, suggesting Middle Eastern or Continental European decorative influence. Condition: The silverplate stand rates Good to Very Good — the frame retains strong silver luster with expected tarnish in recessed areas and light oxidation to the base; the glass liners show age-appropriate cloudiness and minor surface scratching but are intact without chips or cracks. The porcelain footed salt rates Very Good — vivid hand-painted decoration with bright gilding, no chips or cracks observed, minor wear to gold feet consistent with age. The enamel double stand rates Good with minor wear to the gold-tone frame. A wonderful lot for collectors of Victorian table silver, antique salt cellars, or Continental porcelain.
