Description:
This is a vintage Gretsch solid body electric guitar, possibly from the 1960s, featuring the iconic Gretsch headstock logo in gold lettering on a black headstock face — a hallmark of Brooklyn-era Gretsch production before the brand's sale to Baldwin in 1967. The body presents in a deep mahogany/burgundy red finish with a distinctive asymmetrical single-cutaway silhouette, black multi-ply pickguard, and what appears to be a single HiLo'Tron or FilterTron-style pickup with the characteristic Gretsch 'G' logo cover, consistent with budget-to-mid-range Gretsch models of the era such as the Corvette or Clipper series. This guitar has documented history of being played by the legendary rock band Steppenwolf (no certificate of authenticity provided). Hardware includes a chrome compensated bridge/tailpiece combination, two chrome control knobs on the pickguard, and a set of mixed tuning machines — some original amber/brown button Kluson-style and some replacement chrome button tuners — indicating the guitar has seen decades of active use. The rosewood fingerboard displays dot inlays and shows honest playing wear, while the neck profile appears to be a comfortable medium C-shape typical of 1960s Gretsch production. The guitar is housed in its original form-fitted hardshell case with orange plush interior and black exterior leatherette covering with brass hardware, which itself is a highly collectible accessory. A vintage woven psychedelic-style guitar strap in red, yellow, and blue is included. Condition is rated Good to Very Good for its age: the body finish shows significant checking, surface scratches, and play wear throughout the top, consistent with 60+ years of use; the chrome hardware shows light tarnish and oxidation; frets appear to have reasonable life remaining; the original case shows heavy exterior wear with the orange interior remaining intact. A professional setup is recommended before playing. This is a compelling player-grade vintage American guitar with strong collector appeal and notable rock and roll provenance in the Colorado vintage instrument market.
