Description:

A striking pair of antique Rococo Revival freestanding vanity or dresser mirrors, each featuring an elaborate cast metal frame finished in a dark bronze-black patina with warm golden undertones visible at the high relief points. Each mirror is adorned with three-dimensional cherub (putti) figures — one seated atop the crest amid swirling acanthus leaf scrollwork, and a second reclining at the base amid C-scroll and foliate feet — a hallmark of the Rococo Revival decorative style popular in Europe and America from approximately 1870 through the early 1900s. The shield-shaped beveled glass mirrors are set within pierced, openwork frames featuring intricate scrolling foliage, and each mirror stands independently on scrolled feet. The frames appear to be cast iron or spelter (zinc alloy) with a dark patinated finish, a common production method for decorative household accessories of this period. Estimated height is approximately 18–22 inches tall. Condition is Fair to Good overall: the left mirror retains a largely intact beveled glass with light surface scratches and minor foxing; the right mirror's glass shows significantly heavier foxing, silvering loss, and surface scratching throughout, rendering it largely non-reflective — the glass on the right mirror would benefit from replacement. Both frames are structurally sound with no visible breaks or missing cast elements noted; the dark patina shows age-appropriate wear with bronze highlights at raised surfaces. These mirrors would make a dramatic Gothic, Victorian, or Rococo decorative statement and are highly sought by collectors of 19th-century decorative arts.
