This is a pair of vintage Native American coiled baskets, both handwoven using natural plant fibers such as yucca, sumac, or juncus. The taller basket, with its reddish-brown patina and diagonally looped handle, is likely of Western Apache or Pima (Akimel O'odham) origin, noted for their tight, round coiling and functional shapes used for gathering. The shorter, wider basket, with pronounced vertical bands, resembles designs attributed to Yavapai or Havasupai weavers of the Southwest, who favored more geometric exterior patterns and open coiling.
Both baskets show age, wear, and use, with some minor breaks to the fibers, which is typical for utilitarian pieces of this age. They represent excellent examples of Southwestern utilitarian basketry, likely mid-20th century or earlier.
