Description:

Lot #133 -  Antique Primitive Dough Riser Box with Natural Patina and Distressed Details

Authentic antique dough riser box featuring a rustic design with natural wood patina and distressed marks. Crafted from solid wood, this box displays character-rich imperfections including worn spots, scratches, and unique discolorations that add to its antique charm. Ideal for collectors of antique furniture, bakers looking for nostalgic decor, or anyone wanting a sturdy, character-filled addition to their home.

Historically, these were essential kitchen tools for:
Proofing: Providing a warm, draft-free place for bread dough to rise before the invention of modern climate-controlled ovens.
Protection: The heavy wooden lid kept out dust, insects, and mice while the dough was fermenting, often overnight.
Preparation: The lid often served as a flat, sturdy surface for hand-kneading and shaping the dough into loaves.
Commonly seen in 18th and 19th-century homes, these boxes were often kept near a fireplace or stove to maintain the warmth necessary for the yeast to activate.

Located in basement. Must bring adequate help.
