Wear seen from age and use. Nambe makes a polish that can bring it back to newer condition. The Lid can be used upside down as a second serving tray.
Nambe products are made from a proprietary alloy of eight metals, giving them the look of silver without the need for polishing. The material is:

Oven-safe to 500°F, allowing use for baking or warming food.

Not microwave-safe, due to the metal composition.
