This estate auction lot features a collector-assembled group of 1963-D Franklin Half Dollars, the final year of the Franklin half dollar series. Struck at the Denver Mint, these coins are composed of 90% silver and are widely collected for both their silver content and their status as the closing chapter of the Franklin design before the introduction of the Kennedy half dollar in 1964.
Several coins in this group are collector-noted as FBL (Full Bell Lines)—a designation referring to the uninterrupted horizontal lines at the base of the Liberty Bell on the reverse. Full Bell Lines indicate a sharper strike and are a key attribute actively sought by Franklin half dollar collectors, as many examples from this series were weakly struck.
