Description:

This estate auction lot features a large collector-assembled group of U.S. Jefferson Nickels, spanning the early years of the series from 1938 through 1941. These coins represent the formative period of the Jefferson nickel design, which debuted in 1938, making early-date examples especially desirable to collectors building complete date-and-mint sets.

The group includes a strong concentration of Denver Mint (D) issues, along with additional early Philadelphia strikes. Coins from these years are widely collected due to lower survival rates in higher condition and the importance of early production within the Jefferson nickel series.

Why These Coins Are Unique

What sets this lot apart is the quantity of early-date Jefferson nickels offered together, many from the same short production window. Estate groupings like this appeal to:

  • Collectors filling album slots and date runs

  • Buyers seeking early-series Jefferson nickels in bulk

  • Resellers and variety hunters looking for strike quality, toning, or die characteristics

Several coins display natural toning and varied surface character, offering visual diversity within the group and additional collector interest.

Coins are individually housed in 2x2 cardboard holders with handwritten date and mint mark annotations from the original collector.

Important Collector Notation & Accuracy Disclaimer

Dates, mint marks, and other information written on the holders were handwritten by the original collector and have not been independently verified. We cannot guarantee the accuracy of the information noted on the cards. Buyers should carefully review all photographs and bid accordingly.
