Lot #15 - Antique 1800s Whale Oil Metal and Glass Lantern with Star Cutouts 

This 19th century whale oil tin and glass lantern was used circa 1800 - 1860 and was considered "high tech" at the time. Whale oil lamps burned brightly and were smoke-free compared to candles. Due to environmental concerns, the whale oil was eventually replaced with kerosene. This piece features thick and sturdy old glass and some rusty metal on top and base, with star cutouts. Designed with a sturdy hanging ring for easy suspension. Perfect for collectors of antique lighting, rustic home decor enthusiasts, or anyone looking to create a warm, inviting atmosphere in their living area or garden. It is unknown if this piece is complete, but it would look lovely sitting on a table with a candle!
