Very large antique hand-hammered copper cauldron or basin with ornate iron handle mounts and decorative chain. This impressive piece features thick, heavy-gauge copper construction, a wide rolled rim, and beautifully detailed handle brackets with a patterned handle and hanging chain.
The interior shows typical wear, patina, and verdigris consistent with age and historic use, along with visible hammer marks from hand-formed construction. Pieces like this were traditionally used for large-batch cooking tasks such as apple butter, preserves, maple syrup reduction, or soap making over open fires. The substantial thickness of the copper allowed for even heat distribution during long cooking processes.
The decorative handle mounts suggest this was also intended to be an attractive working vessel rather than purely utilitarian.
Measurements approximately: 32" diameter, 13" tall
Today these large antique copper kettles are highly sought after for farmhouse, mountain cabin, and rustic décor. They are often repurposed as statement planters, firewood bins, or decorative hearth pieces.
Good antique condition with age patina, interior wear, and surface marks consistent with historic use.
