Large antique copper cauldron or farm kettle with heavy gauge hand-hammered copper construction and riveted iron handles. This substantial vessel features a thick rolled rim and strap-mounted iron handles secured with copper rivets. The interior shows remnants of original tin lining and a visible “cook line,” consistent with kettles used for long simmering and reduction.
Kettles of this size and construction were commonly used in the late 19th to early 20th century for traditional farm and homestead tasks such as apple butter making, fruit preserves, maple syrup reduction, soap making, and large-batch cooking over open fires. The heavy copper walls were designed to distribute heat evenly and withstand extended use.
The kettle also shows an old solder repair seam and age patina, both typical of well-used working vessels from the period.
Measurements approximately: 24.5" diameter, 30" wide including handles, 11" tall
A wonderful piece of early utilitarian copper that works beautifully today as farmhouse, garden, or mountain cabin décor, and is often repurposed as a large planter, firewood bin, or decorative hearth vessel.
Good antique condition with age patina, surface wear, and old repair consistent with historic use.
