Description:

Lot # 38 - Original Etching Signed and Named  by Fred McCaleb "Breezy Day" in a Vintage Frame 21" x 17" Framed ~ Year Unknown

Fred McCaleb (1893 - 1959) was active/lived in Louisiana.  Fred McCaleb is known for Hunting genre and waterfowl, hunting dog portrait painting. During the mid 20th century, Fred McCaleb was considered by some to be the consummate sporting artist.  "When he wasn't at his easel, his bachelorhood allowed him to fish the bayous and rivers of his home state, Louisiana, shoot ducks in its marshes, or hunt game birds in its flatlands."

From theses experiences he did numerous drawings, painting and etchings, many which appeared in sporting magazines such as Field & Stream, Outdoor Life and Sports Afield.

"And whereas his art reflected a variety of themes it was his ability to portray the hunting dog as an almost regal subject that has won this artist his unique place in the world of sporting art forty-five years after his death."
