Description:

This lot features a collection of wood lathe turning tools prominently including Robert Sorby branded chisels, a highly respected Sheffield, England toolmaker known since 1828 for producing premium woodturning and woodworking tools favored by professional craftsmen and serious hobbyists worldwide. The collection is housed in a vintage blue steel toolbox approximately 20 inches long by 7 inches wide by 7 inches tall, featuring a hinged dome-style lid, a central metal latch clasp, and a brown leather-wrapped carry handle. The interior is lined with a red metal tray organizer that holds the tools in place. The tool collection includes multiple Robert Sorby turning chisels with characteristic ash wood handles featuring decorative turned rings, along with additional mixed-brand turning tools including gouges, skew chisels, parting tools, and detail tools with both wood and red-painted handles, as well as a marking gauge, dividers/compass, a Norot 260 scribing tool, and various smaller accessories. Robert Sorby tools are identifiable by the signature script branding burned or stamped into the ash handles and are considered among the finest production turning tools available, making this a genuinely useful working set for Colorado woodturners and craftspeople. Condition is Good overall: the toolbox exterior shows heavy surface rust, paint loss, scratches, and patina consistent with decades of workshop use, though the box remains structurally sound with a functioning latch and hinges; the Robert Sorby and other tool handles show light use wear, minor soiling, and surface marks but no cracks or breaks; metal tool shafts show light oxidation and workshop patina but appear intact and functional. Buyers should expect a used working set that may benefit from light sharpening and cleaning.
