This is a remarkable antique wardrobe steamer trunk manufactured by Oshkosh Trunks & Luggage, one of America's most prestigious trunk makers founded in Oshkosh, Wisconsin in 1897 and celebrated for producing high-quality travel trunks through the early-to-mid 20th century. The exterior is covered in natural canvas with bold red and gold horizontal stripes, framed by black vulcanized fiber edging and secured with dozens of brass dome-head studs throughout — hallmarks of Oshkosh's premium construction. Heavy-duty brass hardware includes large butterfly clasps, corner clamps, and a central locking mechanism with what appears to be an original key present; the top panel bears hand-stenciled owner's initials 'M.I.F.' in block letters, a common personalization practice of the era indicating this was a commissioned or custom-ordered piece. The interior is a full wardrobe configuration lined in deep burgundy/crimson fabric, featuring a fold-out wooden clothes hanger bar with multiple slotted hangers on the left side and a velvet-curtained accessory compartment with snap closures on the right door — this wardrobe-style interior was designed for extended ocean liner or rail travel and represents the luxury travel standard of the 1920s-1930s. The trunk stands upright on casters (not visible but typical of this style) and measures approximately 40 inches tall x 24 inches wide x 22 inches deep when closed. The original Oshkosh paper label with the company's trademark figure is visible on the front panel, confirming authenticity. Condition is rated Good for age: the canvas exterior shows significant age-related staining, water marks, and overall patina consistent with 80-100 years of use; the black fiber edging shows cracking and some losses at corners; brass hardware retains good color with expected tarnish and oxidation; the interior fabric lining is intact with some soiling and wear; the wooden hanger rack is present and functional; structurally the trunk is sound with all latches appearing to operate. An exceptional display piece, decorator item, or serious collector's trunk with original label and complete wardrobe interior.
