Description:

This is a classic Black Forest hunter-style cuckoo clock crafted in Germany, likely dating to the mid-to-late 20th century (circa 1960s–1980s), representative of the finest woodcarving traditions of the Schwarzwald region. The case is constructed of linden wood and features extraordinarily detailed hand-carved relief ornamentation including a large game bird (pheasant) on the left, a rabbit on the right, crossed hunting rifles, a game bag, oak leaves, and acorns — all hallmarks of the traditional Jäger (hunter) style popularized by Black Forest clockmakers such as Hubert Herr, Anton Schneider, and similar regional manufacturers. The black dial features cream-colored Roman numerals with ornate brass-finished hands, set within a carved wooden surround with concentric ring detailing, and the cuckoo door above the dial is intact with its characteristic louvered shutters. Three cast iron pinecone-shaped weights hang from brass-link chains, indicating this is a weight-driven mechanical movement, consistent with an 8-day or 1-day spring-wound movement. The clock measures approximately 18 inches tall by 14 inches wide including the carved ornamentation, with the weights adding additional hanging length. Condition is rated Good to Very Good: the carving detail is crisp and well-preserved throughout, the dial is clean with no cracking, and the weights and chains are present and intact; the roof section shows minor separation at one joint seam visible in photos, and there is general age-appropriate darkening and patina to the wood consistent with decades of display. Movement functionality and cuckoo mechanism have not been tested and are sold as-is; servicing by a clock repair specialist is recommended before operation.
