Description:

This lot presents a vintage EK brand 'High Class' trade mark plumb bob, size 400 grams (approximately 14 oz), complete with its original jute string line and distinctive yellow and teal cardboard box. The plumb bob itself is a classic conical drop-point design, machined from solid steel with a bright metallic finish and a brass-toned threaded cap at the top for string attachment — a hallmark of quality construction in mid-20th century surveying and masonry tools. The EK trademark, displayed prominently on the box's teal pennant-shaped graphic, was a respected mark associated with quality hand tools, likely of British or Commonwealth manufacture from the 1950s–1970s, when such plumb bobs were standard equipment for carpenters, bricklayers, surveyors, and construction tradesmen across the English-speaking world. The conical body is well-machined with a sharp, precise tip essential for accurate vertical alignment work, and the brass cap retains its original knurled finish for easy string threading. Collectors of antique hand tools, vintage surveying instruments, and tradesman memorabilia will appreciate this complete, boxed example. Condition is rated Very Good overall: the steel body shows light surface oxidation/patina and a couple of minor rust spots on the body consistent with age and storage, the brass cap retains good color, the original jute string is intact and complete though aged, and the original cardboard box shows yellowing, light creasing, and wear to the open end but retains strong graphics and structural integrity — a rare find to have box, string, and bob all together.
