Description:

This lot consists of two original factory boxes of Libbey Safedge glassware, manufactured by Owens-Illinois with general offices in Toledo, Ohio, dating to the Mid-Century Modern era of the 1950s-1960s. Each corrugated box features the iconic Libbey 'L' in circle logo in blue and holds what appears to be 6 tumblers per box in individual cardboard cell dividers, for an estimated total of 12 glasses across both boxes. The tumblers are crafted from clear machine-pressed glass with a classic tapered tumbler form and feature a delicate wheel-cut or etched atomic starburst/snowflake decorative motif on the exterior — a quintessential Mid-Century Modern design element highly sought by collectors and barware enthusiasts. Libbey Glass, operating under the Owens-Illinois umbrella during this period, was one of America's premier commercial glassware manufacturers, and the Safedge line was specifically engineered with a reinforced rim to resist chipping in commercial foodservice settings, making these both durable and collectible. The atomic starburst pattern reflects the Space Age design aesthetic that dominated American decorative arts from approximately 1955-1965, making these a perfect complement to other Mid-Century barware, Pyrex, or Atomic Age kitchenware collections. Condition is Very Good to Excellent — the glasses appear to have been stored in their original factory packaging and show minimal use; the etched decoration is crisp and clear, with no visible chips or cracks noted on the examined glass; the boxes themselves show age-related wear including creasing and minor crushing to the top flaps of the upper box. Buyers should note that exact piece count should be verified upon receipt, and minor storage dust may be present on individual glasses.
