Description:

This lot features two vintage Premier Brand paper/photo trimmers manufactured by Photo Materials Co. of Chicago, Illinois, a well-regarded American maker of darkroom and photographic studio supplies active primarily from the 1930s through the 1960s. Each trimmer features a green-painted cast iron guillotine arm with a coil spring return mechanism, a green gridded cutting mat surface with printed measurement guides, and aluminum/metal ruled guide bars marked 'Premier Brand' and 'Photo Materials Co. Chicago Ill.' The boards measure approximately 13x13 inches based on the visible ruler markings, making them suitable for trimming standard photographic prints up to approximately 11x14 inches. These heavy-duty professional-grade trimmers were standard equipment in commercial photography studios, darkrooms, and print shops of the mid-20th century, representing a now-collectible era of analog photography tools. Both units retain their original green paint on the cast iron arms and hardware, with the branded ruler guides clearly legible on both the wooden top ruler and the printed base scale. Condition is rated Good overall: both trimmers show honest wear consistent with decades of professional use, including surface scratches and scuff marks to the green cutting mat surfaces, light oxidation and paint wear to the cast iron arms, and general grime accumulation; the cutting blades and spring mechanisms appear intact and functional, though sharpness of the blades has not been tested. All hardware including the adjustment knobs and guide stops appears present on both units.
