Description:
This is a set of two vintage metal serving/lap trays dating to the 1970s, featuring a bold bohemian medallion pattern that is quintessentially representative of the era's graphic design aesthetic. Both trays are constructed of lithographed steel with a deep black background adorned with an allover repeating pattern of geometric floral medallions in burnt orange, coral, cream, and gold — a classic harvest-palette colorway highly sought by mid-century and retro kitchenware collectors. The scalloped edges on all four corners add an elegant decorative touch typical of quality tray sets from this period. One tray is fitted with folding metal legs (lap desk or bed tray style), finished in a brushed gold tone, making it functional as a breakfast-in-bed or TV dinner tray; the second tray is a flat serving tray of similar dimensions, estimated approximately 18 x 14 inches each. The lithographed decoration features intricate concentric circle borders surrounding large starburst and petal medallions, with a repeating small fleur-de-lis border running along all edges — a level of decorative detail consistent with mid-grade American or Japanese-made tinware of the late 1960s to mid-1970s. These trays align with the broader retro kitchenware collecting trend and would complement collections of harvest gold and avocado green era housewares. Condition is rated Good to Very Good: the lithography remains vivid and largely intact with strong color retention; the folding legs on the lap tray are functional and sturdy; both trays show light surface scratches and minor scuffs consistent with age and use, and one tray exhibits a small area of surface wear near the top edge visible in photos; no significant dents, rust, or structural damage noted.
