Description:
This outstanding collection of vintage records and storage albums represents a wonderful cross-section of mid-20th century American music history, spanning the late 1940s through the 1960s. The lot includes a highly desirable Bill Haley and His Comets Decca Records Extended Play 45 (ED 2168) 'Shake Rattle and Roll,' one of the most iconic early rock and roll recordings ever pressed, featuring 'ABC Boogie' and 'Rock Around the Clock' on the iconic yellow Decca label. Also included is a Bert Kaempfert 'Strangers in the Night' promotional sampler disc issued by the Longines Symphonette Society on their Living Sound Stereo label out of Larchmont, NY — a full-weight, full-fidelity pressing marketed as a premium audiophile product. The lot further contains a Columbia Records pressing visible in its original plastic sleeve, a stack of loose 78 RPM and 45 RPM shellac and vinyl discs, and four vintage leatherette record storage binders — one cream/ivory, one burgundy red, one black, and one Decca-branded cardboard binder with index pages for cataloging Title and Artist — all period-correct accessories from the 1950s era. The Decca binder bears U.S. Patent No. 2857190 and features a visible index system. Condition is overall Good to Very Good for the collection: the Bill Haley sleeve shows edge wear and light soiling consistent with age; the loose records show surface marks and light scuffs but appear structurally intact; the storage binders range from Fair (ivory cover shows staining and foxing) to Good (burgundy and black covers show scuffing and corner wear); playability of individual records has not been tested and is sold as-is. An exceptional lot for rock and roll historians, vintage vinyl collectors, and mid-century music enthusiasts in the Denver Colorado area.
