This charming antique Victorian-era folding rocking chair is a classic example of late 19th-century American parlor furniture, likely dating to the 1880s-1900s. The chair is constructed of solid walnut or walnut-stained hardwood featuring the distinctive folding scissor-joint mechanism that made these chairs popular for Victorian parlors, sewing rooms, and nurseries — they could be compactly stored when not in use. The crest rail is adorned with hand-carved relief decoration depicting scrolling acanthus leaves and a central rosette motif, a hallmark of Victorian Eastlake and Renaissance Revival aesthetic sensibilities.
