Description:

This is a vintage Singer sewing machine branded with the 'Tailor-Maid' designation, consistent with Singer's Model 201 or closely related straight-stitch workhorse produced during the late 1930s to mid-1940s — widely regarded as one of the finest domestic sewing machines ever manufactured due to its all-metal gear-driven rotary hook mechanism. The machine features the iconic jet-black japanned enamel body adorned with elegant gold floral and vine decal work, a hallmark of Singer's mid-century aesthetic, along with a beautifully ornate chrome faceplate displaying intricate embossed scrollwork and floral motifs that collectors prize highly. The machine is housed in its original burgundy faux-crocodile embossed carrying case with a chrome carry handle, and sits on a matching decorative base with gold floral border detailing. A notable bonus inclusion is an original boxed Singer Automatic Zigzagger attachment in its original green and white Singer Manufacturing Company box, marked 'Made in U.S.A.,' adding significant collector and functional value. The serial number plate visible on the base reads beginning with 'Y' prefix, indicating manufacture during the 1940s era at Singer's factories. Expert observations include the ornate chrome needle plate and presser foot assembly in good condition, the original motor and wiring still present (electrical components should be inspected by a qualified technician before use), and a fabric pincushion wrap around the arm indicating prior active use. Condition is rated Good overall: the black enamel body retains strong color with minor surface wear and light scuffing, gold decals are largely intact with some fading, the carrying case shows notable wear including scratches, scuffs, and surface loss to the faux-leather covering particularly on the base corners, and the original power cord shows age-related wear and should be replaced before operation; the chrome and mechanical components appear intact and the machine turns freely by hand.
