Description:
This lot comprises four antique silver-plated salt and pepper shakers in two distinct styles, each showcasing exceptional ornamental craftsmanship consistent with late Victorian and Edwardian-era tableware production. The first pair features a footed, pear-shaped body covered in deeply embossed repousse rose and foliate decoration with scrolling vines, standing on three decorative pad feet with smooth domed tops pierced with small dispensing holes — a classic form associated with American silver plate makers of the 1880s–1910s such as Stieff, Kirk, or similar repousse specialists. The second pair is taller and more architectural in form, displaying a Georgian-inspired muffineer or caster silhouette with a pedestal base, waisted body engraved with basketweave, scale, and scrollwork panels, and a pierced dome top with finial — a style reminiscent of English or American Colonial Revival silver plate from the late 19th to early 20th century. Both styles feature the dense surface ornamentation and hand-finished quality that collectors of Victorian silver plate actively seek. The footed rose pair shows heavy dark tarnish and oxidation throughout, with the silver plate worn to base metal in several high-contact areas, consistent with age and use over 100+ years; structurally intact with no dents observed. The taller architectural pair retains significantly more silver luster with lighter tarnish, showing minor surface wear and scratching but presenting in Good to Very Good condition overall. All four shakers appear complete and functional. A wonderful mixed lot for collectors of antique silver plate, Victorian tableware, or repousse decorative arts.
