Description:
This is a matched pair of solid brass single-arm wall candle sconces in the Georgian Colonial Revival style, likely produced in the mid-to-late 20th century during the height of the brass home décor revival popular from the 1960s through the 1980s. Each sconce features a classically proportioned vertical backplate with a turned finial at the top, a fluted urn-form body, and a gracefully curved arm extending to support a single candle cup with a drip bobeche tray beneath — all hallmarks of 18th-century English and American Colonial candleholder design. The construction appears to be cast brass with a warm golden tone throughout, exhibiting the substantial weight and crisp detail work consistent with quality cast production rather than stamped sheet brass. The back plates reveal keyhole-style wall mounting hardware, making installation straightforward, and a small screw or bolt secures the arm assembly to the backplate. Each sconce measures approximately 14-15 inches in height and 5-6 inches in projection from the wall. Condition is Very Good overall; both pieces display natural age-related patina and light tarnishing consistent with decades of use, with minor verdigris spotting visible in recessed areas, no dents, no breaks, and both candle cups and bobeche trays are intact and functional. A light polishing would restore a bright brass finish if desired, or the current aged patina suits a more antique aesthetic perfectly.
