This is a classically proportioned French Louis XV-style bureau plat (flat-top writing desk) crafted in mahogany with a serpentine-shaped apron and elegantly curved cabriole legs terminating in small brass sabots. The desk features a black tooled leather writing surface inset into the top, bordered by a double-line gilt-stamped foliate decorative border — a hallmark of fine French-inspired desk design dating to the late 19th through mid-20th century. The serpentine apron houses three drawers across the front: two flanking drawers fitted with ornate cast brass bail pull handles and a central shallow drawer with a decorative brass escutcheon keyhole surround. Ormolu-style cast brass acanthus leaf mounts are applied at the leg-to-apron junctions, adding the characteristic rococo flourish associated with Louis XV revival furniture. The cabriole legs are accented with gilt banding along their outer edges, a refined detail indicating quality craftsmanship.
