This fascinating lot of three vintage decorative boxes includes a Japanese-made wood music box and two matching bone/horn trinket boxes, each containing a polished brass egg. The centerpiece music box is stamped 'JAPAN' on the base, dating it to the mid-20th century export era, and features a dark brown lacquered exterior with gold floral/lotus stencil decoration, ornate gold-tone filigree metal side wings, and a red velvet-lined interior. The hinged lid reveals a glass-covered interior panel displaying a classical-style oil print depicting a cherub or angelic figure, with a visible wind-up music movement mechanism housed beneath a decorative gold-on-dark printed panel. The two flanking trinket boxes appear to be crafted from natural bone or horn with carved/textured surfaces, each lined in rich royal blue velvet and topped with a small decorative brass crown finial on the lid; each contains a smooth polished brass egg approximately 1.5 inches in length. The music box measures approximately 5 inches wide by 4 inches deep by 3 inches tall, while the bone boxes measure approximately 3 inches square. Condition is overall Good to Very Good for the group: the music box shows wear to the lacquer finish, light scuffing to the base, and the music movement's functionality is unconfirmed; the bone boxes show natural aging and minor surface wear consistent with age; the blue velvet linings are intact with minor compression; the brass eggs retain good luster with minor tarnish.
