Description:

  • The dial is marked “Emperor”, which was a well-known American clock kit company from the mid-20th century.
  • These clocks were often sold as DIY kits from the 1960s–1980s, where buyers assembled the cases and installed German-made movements (usually Hermle or Urgos).
  • The bonnet (arched top), glass door, and decorative face with Roman numerals and corner spandrels are all classic features of this style.
  •
  • Movement: Chain-driven, mechanical (seen in your 4th photo with chains taped up).
  • Face: Brass dial with Roman numerals, ornate spandrels, and a rotating moon phase / celestial dial painted with a deer and landscape scene (more decorative than traditional lunar).
  • Chimes: Most Emperor clocks of this type play Westminster chimes (and sometimes others).
  • Case: Walnut or oak veneer, fairly slim build compared to older 18th–19th century clocks.

  • Most Emperor kit clocks date from 1960s–1980s.
  • The decorative style of the dial and artwork suggests 1970s–early 1980s.
