Alexis Compera, American (alternatively known as Comparet) 1856- 1906, studied with Benjamin Constant in Paris in the early 1870's and with Harvey Young in Colorado in 1879. Although from Indiana, Compera settled permanently in Denver. He was formally recognized by having his paintings shown at the Art Institute of Chicago. He exhibited at the Third Spring Exhibition of Watercolors in 1891; the 13th Annual Exhibition of Oil Paintings and Sculpture by American Artists, 1900; and the 17th Annual Exhibition of Paintings and Sculpture, 1904.
