Description:

Vintage bolo tie featuring a silver centerpiece with a Native American inspired design resembling a flying figure. The centerpiece includes inlaid turquoise, black, red, and white stones. The tie has a braided black leather cord and silver tips. Classic southwestern jewelry style,  handcrafted.

The bolo tie slide features a Zuni Knifewing or Knife Wing (A-tchi-a la-to-pa), a significant figure in Zuni mythology depicted as a half-human, half-eagle spirit. This figure is revered as the ultimate warrior, symbolizing strength, agility, and protection.

Details
  • Design: The figure is created using multi-stone inlay, a technique characteristic of Zuni craftsmanship. The specific stones appear to be turquoise, black onyx or jet, red coral, and white mother of pearl, set in a silver-tone metal, likely sterling silver.
  • Style: This type of Southwestern Native American jewelry became popular as a motif in the late 1920s and was widely worn in the 1950s and 1980s. The bolo tie itself is a symbol of the American Southwest and is the official neckwear of Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas.
