Featured engraving from Johann Elias Ridinger born in 1698 and died in 1767. This is an after Ridinger engraving of a stag in the rut by a tree and laying in the bushes. The script below the engraving is all in German but is dated 1710-1721. Johann Elias Ridinger was a German painter, engraver, draughtsman and publisher. He is considered one of the most famous German engravers of animals, particularly horses, hounds and hunting scenes. He began his training in Ulm with the painter Christoph Resch, and later studied under Johann Falch in Augsburg. The condition of this framed etching is well preserved with no obvious signs of damage to the artwork or the frame but otherwise shows a well preserved condition.
