This impressive casket is adorned with elaborate floral, foliate, and scrollwork motifs executed in high relief. The hinged lid is crowned with a finely detailed figural sculpture depicting Saint George slaying the dragon, a classic symbol of courage and triumph that is frequently found in historic Spanish Colonial and South American decorative arts.
Additional highlights include:
Solid sterling silver construction (tested)
19th-century Bolivian craftsmanship
Exquisite repoussé and chased decoration
Hinged lid with original locking mechanism and key
Rich crimson velvet-lined interior
Ornate figural handles and decorative feet
Approximately 17" H x 13.5" W x 9" D
An extraordinary example of Bolivian silverwork that combines artistic craftsmanship with historical significance. Equally suitable as a statement display piece, presentation casket, or centerpiece for an advanced collection of antique silver.
Condition: Very good antique condition with age-appropriate patina and wear. One figure has lost his wing, but we have it! Interior velvet exhibits expected age-related wear. Please review all photographs carefully.
