Description:

Lot # 372 - Authentic Japanese Parasol Wagasa Umbrella Hand Painted Floral.  The beautifully preserved wagasa parasol is red on the top and beige on the under side, with lovely flowers painted on both sides.  Wagasa parasols have been around for hundreds of years!  Made from bamboo and "washi" paper then painted, oiled and lacquered to strengthen the paper and add water resistance.  This was stored beautifully and is in very good condition.  See metal latch to keep it open, push in to close the umbrella.  Reinforced tip.  A common use was sun protection for women.
