Offered is a substantial group of original United States Internal Revenue tobacco tax certificates, large-format Special Tax Stamp documents issued to licensed tobacco manufacturers and dealers as proof of payment of the federal occupational tax.

These certificates date to the late 19th to early 20th century, a period when tobacco production and sale were heavily regulated and taxed by the federal government. Each certificate features bold engraved designs headed “United States”, prominent tax class and dollar amounts, and attached perforated control stubs used by revenue offices for accounting and verification.

The group displays multiple examples in varied colors and print styles, reflecting different tax years and classes within the tobacco trade. These were working government documents, intended to be displayed at places of business and retained by revenue officials, making surviving examples desirable historical artifacts.

Condition ranges from handled to well-preserved, with folds, creases, edge wear, toning, surface soiling, and occasional punch marks or cancellations consistent with age and official use. Some certificates show partial or intact stubs, as expected. No cleaning or restoration has been attempted.

This is an impressive collector and display lot, ideal for collectors of U.S. revenue stamps, tobacco history, federal taxation, or pre-Prohibition American ephemera. The size, color, and repetition make this an especially strong grouping.
